Observability, Controllability and Control of Systems of ODEs

Supplement to the course APM 542 Version 1 This is an introduction to the concepts of observability, controllability and control of systems of Ordinary Differential Equations (ODEs), which are finite-dimensional models for evolution processes. Since this is an introduction, we describe only linear systems, for which the theory is well developed. For nonlinear systems there seems to be no general theory, as each class of problems needs a specialized treatment.
